After living in the Philippines for almost a year, my grandma flew back home to Northern California last night, and the family can not be any happier!  So, in celebration of Grandma Lita’s homecoming, I wanted to share with you a wonderful video created by the fabulous folks from the Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  It is 4 minutes and 6 seconds (plus additional videos) devoted to honoring our caregivers, not only those living here in California but also across the country and around the world.  These amazing individuals, which includes my grandma,  place all of their energy into caring for their loved ones on a daily, 24/7 basis, often neglecting their own needs and well-being.  Being a caregiver sounds like an extremely hard and difficult task (and it is), but it is a shift in one’s life focus that is easy to make.  The love that a caregiver has for their loved one who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s is so immeasurable that this transition just falls into place.  There is no need to second-guess.

So, to my grandma and the rest of our loving caregivers (who are currently in this role or who have been one in the past), I want to say THANK YOU!  You take on a role that many people do not have the physical nor the emotional strength to do.  You are our heroes!
